Good Friday was observed and celebrated in all parts of  Mizoram with religious fervour. While Good Friday was observed to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Easter Sunday marks  His victory over death. All local churches of different Christian denominations held special church services and congregational singing or service locally known as “Zaikhawm or Lengkhawm” to celebrate the occasions.

Special prayers and worship services were held by local churches of different denominations during which sermons related to Good Friday were preached. As for Good Friday, respective Roman Catholic churches also organised mass and took out Good Friday processions. Normally, Good Friday celebration begins from Thursday evening with special church services and holy communion to adhere to the commandment of Jesus, who instructed his disciple to do it just a night before his crucifixion.

All government offices, educational institutions, commercial banks and private institutions were closed on Friday as the government declared a public holiday to mark the sanctity of the day. Different churches also served high-tea after church program as part of the celebration.
