The Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizoram’s largest civil society organization, has urged the state government to establish designated shelter homes for over 42,000 refugees currently taking refuge in Mizoram.

YMA’s central president, Lalhmachhuana, voiced the appeal during a conference on Thursday, emphasizing the urgent need for structured and secure accommodations, particularly as these refugees escape violence and instability in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Manipur.

The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) highlighted that, beyond physical shelter, a coordinated approach to resource management and support is vital for aiding these vulnerable groups. “We call on the government to implement clear guidelines for providing assistance and care,” said Lalhmachhuana.
