New Budget Head Created Under Excise Department; State Projects ₹392.99 Crore Surplus for 2026–27

Lalduhoma on Thursday presented a ₹17,469.91 crore budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the state Assembly, placing strong emphasis on fiscal discipline and intensified action against drug abuse.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced a dedicated allocation of ₹40 lakh for anti-narcotics activities. A new budget head titled “Anti-Narcotics Activities” has been created under the Excise Department to strengthen enforcement measures, improve inter-agency coordination, and conduct awareness campaigns aimed at curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state.
Highlighting the financial outlook, Lalduhoma stated that total revenue receipts for 2026–27 are projected at ₹17,469.91 crore, including ₹8,608.08 crore from central tax devolution. Total expenditure is estimated at ₹17,076.92 crore, resulting in a projected surplus of ₹392.99 crore. The surplus, he said, will be utilized to reduce public account liabilities and improve the state’s fiscal stability.
The budget also focuses on infrastructure development, with ₹2,982.44 crore earmarked for capital expenditure—a 12.18 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. Revenue expenditure is projected at ₹14,094.47 crore, reflecting a 13.18 percent rise compared to the current fiscal estimate.
The 2026–27 budget underscores the government’s dual focus on maintaining fiscal prudence while addressing pressing social challenges, particularly the growing concern over narcotics and substance abuse in the state.
