India’s potential for exporting floriculture was significantly increased when Mizoram shipped 1008 cut anthurium flowers to Singapore from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl. On February 26, the first shipment of Anthurium flowers was physically flagged off by the Department of Horticulture in Mizoram in cooperation with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd. will import the flowers, which were shipped by air from Aizawl via Kolkata and packaged in 50 corrugated boxes by IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd.

India exported 86.62 USD million worth of floriculture to the world in FY 2023–2024. One of the results of the International Conclave and Buyer-Seller Meet, which was held on December 6, 2024, in Aizawl, Mizoram, by APEDA and the Government of Mizoram, was the first shipment of Anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore. Nine foreign customers from Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ethiopia, as well as twenty-four domestic exporters, attended the event.

APEDA’s primary goal is to promote goods from the North Eastern Region, and it will keep concentrating on this area in terms of infrastructure development, quality improvement, and capacity building. It is vital to note that anthuriums are regarded as one of Mizoram’s most significant flowers, stimulating the state’s economy through its production and export. Anthurium production offers local farmers, especially women, financial prospects. In Mizoram, the “Anthurium Festival” is a significant yearly occasion that is planned to exhibit the beauty of the flower’s many variations and encourage tourism.
