The Mizoram government has announced plans to construct a ropeway at Vantawng Falls near Thenzawl town in Serchhip district, aiming to strengthen tourism infrastructure in the state.

According to an official, the project will allow visitors to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the state’s highest waterfall and is being funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.

An amount of ₹34.50 crore has already been sanctioned for the project, and both administrative approval and expenditure clearance have been granted. However, the selection of a contractor to execute the project is still pending.

Located about 92 km from Aizawl, Vantawng Falls is one of Mizoram’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing both domestic and international visitors.

Officials and local stakeholders believe the proposed ropeway will significantly enhance visitor experience, improve accessibility, and transform the site into a world-class destination. The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities and give a major boost to tourism in and around Thenzawl.
