Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh, during his visit to east Champhai district, underscored the importance of national security and the need for accurate identification of refugees taking shelter in the state. In meetings held in Champhai town, he urged officials to take proactive steps to prevent any negative impact on local communities and the country.

Given Champhai’s location along the international border, the governor expressed concern over drug trafficking and its harmful social consequences. He called for strong, coordinated efforts to combat drug abuse and enforce strict action against traffickers.

Mizoram is currently hosting around 40,000 refugees from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and internally displaced persons from Manipur. Champhai Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aaquib informed the governor that 4,653 refugees from Myanmar had arrived following recent armed conflict.

Aaquib also highlighted the challenges posed by recent heavy rainfall and stressed the need to curb cross-border illegal activities.

Governor Singh later visited the Assam Rifles camp in Champhai and was briefed by senior officers, including DIG Brigadier Pushpendar Sorayan.
