The Director General of Police (DGP) of Mizoram, Anil Shukla, asserted the state’s readiness to conduct free, fair, and peaceful elections. Addressing the media at the DGP Conference Hall in Aizawl on Monday, Shukla underscored the meticulous preparations undertaken by the Mizoram Police since December 2023 to ensure an environment conducive to uninhibited voting. With unwavering commitment, Shukla affirmed adherence to the Security Deployment Manual stipulated by the Election Commission of India (ECI), expressing confidence in meeting the requisite force requirements. He emphasized the strategic deployment of forces, particularly at 19 Critical Polling Stations, fortified by the combined efforts of the Mizoram Police and Central Armed Police Force, alongside special vigilance at two Expenditure Sensitive Polling Stations.

Highlighting the significance of gender representation in the electoral process, Shukla unveiled plans for 138 Pink Polling Stations, each manned exclusively by women polling parties and security personnel. This pioneering initiative underscores Mizoram’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and diversity in democratic proceedings. To combat malpractices and uphold electoral integrity, Mizoram boasts an extensive network of 83 Flying Squads Teams and 81 Static Surveillance Teams deployed statewide. These teams are tasked with curbing the distribution of intoxicants, monetary inducements, and coercive tactics, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

Shukla reiterated the vigilance exercised at Inter-State and Intra-State Check Posts to thwart the influx of illegal items, coupled with stringent directives against engaging in unlawful activities. With Inter-State movements halted 48 hours prior to polling closure, Shukla implored the public’s cooperation, acknowledging potential delays due to rigorous security protocols. As Mizoram braces for the Lok Sabha Election 2024, key statistics underscore the magnitude of preparations, including 1276 Polling Stations, 12 Inter-State Border Check Posts, and a formidable deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and State Police personnel. Noteworthy seizures, ranging from narcotics to firearms, bear testimony to Mizoram Police’s unwavering resolve in safeguarding electoral sanctity and public welfare.
