Lalduhoma, the Chief Minister of Mizoram, officially launched the upgraded Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) and a 24-hour dedicated call centre. This new version, effective from April 1, introduces enhanced emergency protocols and expanded funding. During the launch event, Lalduhoma emphasized the government’s commitment to the scheme, noting substantial financial investments have yielded positive benefits for the populace, prompting continued support. The budget for 2026-27 allocates Rs 130 crore for MUHCS implementation, supplemented by Rs 26.42 crore from government employees’ contributions. Additionally, the state has secured a loan exceeding Rs 800 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to reinforce the sustainability of universal health coverage. A significant aspect of MUHCS 2.0 is the tightening of emergency care provisions. The Chief Minister encouraged the public to register for the scheme before the April 15 deadline. The plan offers annual coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for cashless treatment across government facilities and select private and church-run hospitals.
