Mizoram police crackdown, massive seizure of drugs and liquor worth crores before Lok Sabha elections

In a sweeping move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Mizoram Police have conducted a series of raids resulting in the confiscation of drugs and liquor worth several crores. The crackdown, spanning from March 16th to April 8th, 2024, has yielded significant seizures across the state. Under the state-wide initiative to curb the use of illicit substances, Mizoram Police reported the seizure of over 4,773 litres of Local Made Liquor (LML) valued at Rs. 23,28,000, along with 2,577 litres of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs. 41,23,200. Additionally, 66 litres of BEDC and 636 cans of beer, collectively valued at Rs. 3,18,000, were confiscated from the local market. Moreover, approximately 13,340 litres of fermented rice, valued at Rs. 46,69,000, were destroyed during the operation. A total of 51 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 61 individuals.

In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, Mizoram Police also seized substantial quantities of illicit drugs during the same period. A staggering 5.513 kgs. of Heroin, valued at Rs. 1,65,39,000, along with 26.469 kgs. of Methamphetamine and 23.085 kgs. of Ganja, were intercepted. This led to the registration of 25 cases and the arrest of 33 suspects. The achievements of various district executive forces during this period underscore the concerted effort to combat illegal activities:

Aizawl DEF: Aizawl district Police intensified efforts to uncover illegal drugs and alcohol operations. Notable seizures include a raid on March 25th, resulting in the confiscation of 50 cases of IMFL Royal Stag and the arrest of individuals involved. Similar operations yielded significant seizures, including the destruction of illicit liquor manufacturing equipment.

Lunglei DEF: Lunglei Police intercepted several consignments of illicit liquor and narcotics, including 261 bottles of IMFL and 355 packets of LML. These operations led to the registration of 11 cases and the arrest of 13 suspects.

Kolasib DEF: Kolasib Police conducted random vehicle checks, resulting in the seizure of 100 cases of IMFL and 2 cases of beer on March 16th. Subsequent operations led to the recovery of additional contraband, including Royal Stag whisky and MC Dowell rum.

Mamit DEF: Mamit Police intercepted a significant quantity of local made liquor and arrested several individuals involved in its distribution.

Serchhip DEF: Serchhip Police conducted raids on illegal liquor breweries, leading to the destruction of equipment and the arrest of suspects. Additionally, significant quantities of narcotics were seized during this period.

Champhai DEF: Champhai Police seized substantial quantities of heroin, ganja, and methamphetamine, highlighting the rampant drug trade in the region.

Khawzawl DEF: Khawzawl Police conducted special drives against drugs and liquor, resulting in the seizure of fermented rice and the dismantling of illicit liquor manufacturing units.

Hnahthial DEF: Hnahthial Police intercepted multiple shipments of illicit liquor and arrested several individuals involved in its distribution.

Siaha DEF: Siaha Police seized significant quantities of local made liquor on multiple occasions and handed over the contraband to relevant authorities.

Lawngtlai DEF: Lawngtlai Police seized a considerable quantity of ganja and local made liquor, furthering efforts to combat illegal substance abuse.

Saitual DEF: Saitual Police conducted extensive operations against illicit liquor manufacturing units, resulting in significant seizures and arrests.
