Mizoram police seize drugs worth over Rs 32 crore in major bust

In one of the biggest drug hauls of the year, Mizoram Police arrested two individuals, including a woman, and seized drugs valued at over Rs 32.53 crore, officials reported on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a Bolero car traveling from the bordering Champhai district to Aizawl. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 10,70,600 Methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, worth over Rs 32.11 crore. The 115.55 kg of Methamphetamine was packed in 106 packets.

The driver, Lalrintluanga, 50, who owned the vehicle, admitted to importing the drugs from Myanmar with the assistance of smugglers. In a separate incident, police recovered 1,429 grams of heroin, valued at over Rs 42.87 lakh, from another vehicle and arrested Lalduhawmi, 27, near Zokhawthar Playground in Champhai district. Police have registered separate cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
