Mizoram Police thwart explosives smuggling operation to Myanmar; arrests made

The Mizoram Police intercepted a vehicle on the outskirts of Aizawl, seizing a large quantity of explosives destined for Myanmar. One Myanmar national and a local resident were apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt. The interception took place in the early hours of Monday morning, as officers from the Hnahthial Police Station stopped a Sumo Vehicle bearing registration no. MZ 01AA -3655. The driver, identified as H. Ramropuia (24), hailing from Sangau town in South Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, was found illegally transporting 8000 gelatin sticks and 1500 detonators to Sangau town, situated on the border with Myanmar.

Following the discovery, a case under Cr. No. 19/24 u/s 5(a) of the Explosive Substances Act was registered at Hnahthial PS. The vehicle and the explosives were seized, and the driver was promptly arrested. With indications that the explosives were intended for transport into Myanmar, the accused driver has been placed under 72 hours police remand.

Authorities are actively pursuing leads to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network. In a subsequent development, Mr. Straliana of Bungtlang, Myanmar, alleged owner of the seized explosives, was apprehended in Sangau town on Monday afternoon.
