Mizoram reports 528 dengue cases, 1 death this year

At least 528 people have been found to have been infected with Dengue in Mizoram since January till November 4 of which one person succumbed to the infections, according to the records maintained by the state health & family welfare department said. Health department’s State Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (SVBDCP) officials said that samples of 7,488 people who were suspected to be infected with Dengue were tested during the period, of which 528 people tested positive. Aizawl district has the largest number of infected people at 335, followed by 165 infected people in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district during the period.

The first Dengue case was detected in the state in 2012 when 6 cases were found. Since then a total number of people infected with Dengue in the state till October this year is 5,596. The number of Dengue infected people continued to rise yearly but fell drastically during 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic hiatus when the people were under prolonged lockdowns. The number of infection rose to 1,868 in 2022 and the year witnessed 5 human casualties.

Two persons succumbed to Dengue infections during last year while it has claimed one life this year. The highest number of Dengue infections were detected in 2023 when 2,060 people were found to be infected out of 12,949 samples tested during the year.
