Mizoram has emerged as a top-performing state in NITI Aayog’s North Eastern Region SDG Index 2023–24, with all 11 districts attaining ‘Front Runner’ status.

Districts scoring between 65 and 99 are considered Front Runners, reflecting Mizoram’s strong progress in health, education, gender equality, clean water, and sustainable living. Mizoram joins Sikkim and Tripura as the only states where every district achieved this category. The SDG Index is the first of its kind in the Northeast to track district-level progress on 17 goals. Although some regional setbacks were noted in clean energy and consumption, Mizoram remains a leader. Separately, Uttarakhand ranked first nationally in the SDG Index, announced CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.
