Mizoram: Stage set for Elections to Sinlung Hills Council tomorrow

In Mizoram, the stage is set ready for voting tomorrow to elect 12 members of the Sinlung Hills Council. A total of more than 23 Thousand voters, including 11,914 female voters will participate in the election. Voting will take place in 19 polling stations. There are six polling stations which were declared as “critical”.

Speaking to Akashvani News, Secretary of the Mizoram State Election Commission Pu K Laldingliana said that all preparations are in place for conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections. He said that voting will take place from 7 AM and will go till 4 PM. He said elaborate security arrangements are in place for smooth conduct of polls. Laldingliana also appealed to all political parties, NGOs and all stakeholders seeking their co-operation in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election.

The Congress is contesting in all the 12 seats while Mizoram’s ruling party – Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is fighting in 8 seats. The main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) is fielding candidates in 10 seats. The Hmar People’s Convention is contesting in 4 seats while there are as many as 14 Independent candidates in the fray. The fate of 49 candidates will be sealed through ballot papers tomorrow. The Sinlung Hills Council area is spread across three Districts – Aizawl, Kolasib and Saitual.
