Mizoram authorities are set to begin recording the biometric details of displaced individuals from Myanmar and Bangladesh currently taking refuge in the state. Officials stated that training sessions for officers are underway across Mizoram, with the biometric enrollment expected to start by the end of July.
Data collection will be conducted online via the Foreigners Identification Portal, though offline methods may be used in rural areas with limited internet access. A recent training program on the portal and biometric procedures was held in Lunglei, organized by the District Level Committee on Myanmar & Bangladesh Refugees.
During the session, Lunglei Additional SP K Beihmotaosa outlined current preparations, including forming 10 biometric teams and requesting necessary equipment from the Home Department. The enrollment drive will begin at Ramthar Camp and gradually extend to eight more camps in the district. A total of 27 personnel were trained through interactive sessions.
Similar training is taking place in other districts. Mizoram currently hosts over 32,000 Myanmar nationals, 2,371 Bangladeshis, and more than 7,000 Zo people from Manipur, all seeking refuge due to political and ethnic unrest.
