Mizoram’s 9th Legislative Assembly gears up for second Session: Governor outlines vision for state development

The Ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly commenced its Second Session and Budget Session on 19th February 2024, ushering in a period of legislative activity until 13th March 2024. The session opened with an address by Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, who expressed warm greetings to the House and the people of Mizoram. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to efficient and transparent governance, the Governor outlined a vision for economic self-sufficiency, agricultural and infrastructural growth, industrial development, and youth empowerment through skill development and sports. Acknowledging the electorate’s call for change, the Governor assured the people of the government’s dedication to fulfilling the mandate.

He highlighted the importance of the Budget in creating an enabling economic environment and emphasized the need for fiscal prudence, financial discipline, and effective resource management to address economic challenges.The Governor underscored the role of investment in driving growth and announced the approval of the Mizoram Sustainable Investment Policy 2024 to attract diversified investments and promote socio-economic growth. He also highlighted initiatives to support agriculture, rural development, infrastructure improvement, power generation, urban development, and environmental preservation.

Addressing challenges such as drug abuse and trafficking, the Governor pledged to preserve Mizo identity, tradition, and values while fostering unity among Mizo people. He called for responsible governance, financial propriety, transparency, and accountability to the public
