Modi Government Committed for the Empowerment of the Tribal Community, says Union MoS for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey

In Mizoram, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said that the North East has got national attention only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014. Addressing mediapersons in Aizawl, Shri Uikey said that in post-Independence India, successive governments at the Centre have neglected the North East for too long. He said that the focus is now on the North East under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Union Minister said that the Government is committed to the speedy development and progress of the North East and taking care of the needs of the people of the region.

Shri Uikey emphasized that the Narendra Modi Government is committed to the holistic progress and development of the tribal community. He said that the country has got the first President from the tribal community – Droupadi Murmi – which reflects the core commitment of the present Government for the empowerment of the tribal community. The Minister informed that there are 8 tribal Ministers at the Centre.

The Minister said that the Government is focusing on providing quality education to all tribal students by establishing Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across the country under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
