Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian, visited Aizawl on Thursday, where he engaged with Mizoram BJP members and addressed the media at BJP’s party office, Atal Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, Kurian, a devout follower of Christ, emphasized the importance of prayer for the nation’s development and prosperity. He highlighted his background from a predominantly Christian village in Kerala and affirmed his faith in BJP’s inclusive ideology, dismissing notions of the party being anti-Christian since he joined in 1980.
Asserting BJP’s commitment to integral humanism, Kurian clarified that any portrayal of BJP as anti-Christian is merely political rhetoric. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for treating all communities equally and outlined various governmental schemes aimed at uplifting every section of society, inviting all those aligned with India’s progress to join the party. In discussions with the media, Kurian underscored PM Modi’s dedication to Northeast development, citing initiatives under the PMJVK aimed at enhancing infrastructure across sectors with substantial central funding.
Responding to concerns over losses suffered by pig farmers due to African Swine Fever, Kurian assured ongoing research for a preventive vaccine and pledged compensation upon verification of losses reported to state officials.
