A 34-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stabbing to death a 52-year-old woman inside the latter’s shop at Aizawl New Market area on Saturday night, Mizoram home minister K. Sapdanga said. Sapdanga lauded the state Police department sleuths for promptly nabbing the murder suspect before a lapse of 12 hours.
V Lalhmingthangi, a resident of Tuikual South locality in Aizawl was found dead in her store called ‘VLH Variety Store’ at New Market. Local leaders said that Lalhmingthangi, due to heavy work pressure, sometimes went home late and her husband went to sleep on those nights. When her husband could not find her on Sunday morning, he went to Aizawl Police Station to report that his wife had been mission. He was informed through mibile phone that the dead body of his wife was found inside the locked store.
Police and forensic teams rushed to the place of the incident at around 10 AM and launched a massive investigation which resulted in the arrest of Irene Lallawmzuali, a married woman distributing goods to several shops. Lallawmzuali is a resident of Ramthar North neighbourhood but she was nabbed from a friend’s home in Zemabawk locality in the extreme northern outskirts of Aizawl. The Home Minister said that Lallawmzuali had reportedly confessed to the commission of the crime and the Police had seized a knife purportedly used for committing the heinous crime as well as some articles belonging to the deceased, from the accused person.
Post mortem examination has been conducted on the dead body and a criminal case under sections 302/201/380 Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Aizawl Police Station while further detailed investigation is being launched. EOM
