Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Thursday felicitated 13 ethnic Mizo students, including 5 girls, who made it to the top-10 list in the class-10 board examination.The event was graced by Minister of State Prof. Lalnilawma. The students were awarded with each of a citation, Rs. 5,000 cash and valuable books for their outstanding performance in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination held between February and March this year. Addressing the event, Lalnilawma congratulated the students for their achievement in the class-10 board exam. He encouraged them to work hard in their future endeavour.
Lalnilawma urged the students to make use of their knowledge and skill not only for personal gain, but also for the development and progress of the Mizo sub-nation and the state. He also urged them to keep up the Mizo identity, Mizo code of selfless service (Tlawmngaina) and to have the courage. Apart from success, a person must also learn from failure, he said. MZP president H. Lalthianghlima, who spoke on the occasion, also said that the student body organise a felicitation programme every year in order to encourage a health competition among Mizo students.
While there are many girls bearing good moral conduct, there are some Mizo girls who embarrassed the Mizo communities, he said. He said that Mizo women, who married outside the Mizo tribe, bring shame to the Mizo sub-nation and efforts should be made to strictly confine to inter-Mizo tribe marriage. A total of 13 Mizo students have made it to top-10 in the class-10 board results declared on May 14.
