NDMA officials hold crucial meeting with DDMA officials to enhance Disaster Management efforts

Officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) : Dr. SK. Jena, Joint Advisor, Shri Pranava Kumar, Assistant Financial Advisor and Shri Rajan Kumar Borah, Senior Consultant met with members of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) from Aizawl and Lunglei districts at the Royale Lalawi Hotel’s Conference Hall.

In his keynote address Dr. SK.Jena highlighted that the purpose of the visit was to understand the functioning of SDMA and DDMA from a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) perspective, assist districts in strengthening disaster preparedness and response systems, review the status of SDMP/DDMP, apprise and share disaster-related schemes, Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), and guidelines of NDMA, share with States/Districts the disaster-related schemes, Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), and guidelines of NDMA and identify and promote best practices.

Today’s meeting was chaired by Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, Chairman of DDMA Aizawl district and Deputy Commissioner, and he also presented a PowerPoint presentation on “An overview of Disaster Management in Aizawl District” Pi Chuaupari Pachuau, District Organizer of DM&R, Lunglei District, also represented Lunglei DDMA and showcased their district’s disaster management initiatives and efforts. Shri Pranava Kumar led the interaction session, during which he requested the representatives of various line departments to share, in addition to their experiences and challenges, their feedback.

After the meeting at Royale Lalawi concluded, the NDMA officials visited the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC). Tomorrow, they will proceed to visit Champhai and Khawzawl districts.
