Non-local shopkeeper injured in Aizawl shooting

A dramatic shooting incident unfolded around noon on Wednesday in the Dawrpui locality near Aizawl Mosque, resulting in a non-local shopkeeper sustaining injuries.Police investigations revealed that Lalnunsanga (32), a resident of Armed Veng South, engaged in a heated argument with Hayder Ali (30), a non-Mizo shopkeeper from Kadaigul, Karimganj, currently residing in Dawrpui. The altercation escalated, leading Lalnunsanga to shoot Hayder Ali in the right foot with a 0.22 pistol.

Law enforcement swiftly arrested Lalnunsanga and confiscated the locally made 0.22 pistol, which was loaded with two live rounds. During interrogation, Lalnunsanga claimed that the firearm was given to him for repair by an individual named Muanpuia from Manipur.Police suspect that Lalnunsanga, a known drug addict, was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He is currently undergoing intensive questioning, with authorities investigating his connections and activities. Hand swabs have been taken to test for gunpowder residue.

Hayder Ali was rushed to Civil Hospital Aizawl for treatment. The hospital has been asked to provide an injury report, which is currently awaited. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are ongoing.
