Under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei, the ongoing community-driven book collection drive, the ‘Book Nest Initiative’, launched on September 8, 2025, has so far gathered over 6,000 books through the active involvement of 21 YMA branches under the Sub-Headquarters YMA in Lunglei town.As part of the initiative, YMA branches across different localities have been mobilising the collection of old textbooks and storybooks. The collected books are being sorted and prepared for distribution by the YMA branches in collaboration with Self Help Groups (SHGs). In addition to the 21 branches in Lunglei town, three YMA branches from Lungsen have also joined the campaign.
So far, 11 YMA branches in Lunglei town have completed their collection and sorting process, with 6,274 books received to date. The remaining branches are still carrying out the collection, and sorting work is ongoing. In a special contribution, Pu Aryan Mishra (New Delhi), founder of AstroScape, has also donated 25 books to the initiative. Once the process is completed, the books will be distributed to 60 Government Schools within Lungsen Aspirational Block, ensuring that students in need benefit from the donated resources.
The DC Office expressed its appreciation to all donors, YMA branches, SHG members and community volunteers who came together to mobilise, collect and sort the books, noting that the success of the initiative was made possible through their collective effort.
