More than 6,000 books have been collected so far under the ongoing “Book Nest Initiative” currently being held in Lunglei town.

The initiative, launched by Lunglei DC for the benefit of students in Lungsen Aspirational Block, aims to gather books through community participation. As part of the campaign, 21 YMA branches under Sub-HQ YMA in Lunglei town began collecting books from their respective localities starting from 8th September, successfully gathering over 6,000 books.

YMA Section leaders in each branch carried out door-to-door visits, collecting old textbooks, novels, and other types of reading material. The collected books were then sorted by genre through the joint efforts of the YMA branches and Self Help Groups to prepare them for distribution. In addition to the 21 branches in Lunglei town, book collection activities were also carried out in three YMA branches from Lungsen.

So far, 11 YMA branches in Lunglei have completed both collection and sorting of the books, which have totaled 6,299. The remaining branches are still in the process of collecting and sorting their contributions.

The books will be distributed across 60 selected government schools within the Lungsen Aspirational Block once the entire process is complete.
