Over 900 people commited suicide in Mizoram during the past 10 years, a police officer said.During the observation of World Suicide Prevention Day in Aizawl on Tuesday, Aizawl Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahool Alwal said that as many 948 people, including 154 females, committed suicide during 10 years between 2014 till July 2024.
He said that the highest number of suicide is recorded among people in the age group of 20-39 years (584 people), followed by people in the age group of 40-59 years (201 people) and there were 117 people whose age group was 1-19.
40 people were above 60 years, he said.
At least 49 people have commited suicide this year, he said.
Of the 948 people committing suicide, male accounted 84 per cent and females – 16 per cent.
According to officials, suicide incident occurred among people between 1 year and 90 years.
