Poll verdict reveals position and strength of parties: Lalduhoma

Mizoram chief minister and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma on Tuesday said that the polls verdict revealed the position and strength of all political parties.Speaking on the occasion of a celebration over the party’s victory in the Lok Sabha polls, Lalduhoma claimed that the polls verdict has also revealed the progress of the ZPM. ZPM is a relatively young political party, which came into existence in 2017. The party was registered by the Election Commission in July 2019.”The progress of the ZPM can be seen from the Lok Sabha polls results. It is a delightful moment for us to win majority votes in 37 assembly segments, including 10 constituencies, which we lost in the state assembly polls last year,” the chief minister said while addressing party workers.

Lalduhoma expressed hope that his party may also win future elections.He said that the government will make massive efforts towards development once. the model code of conduct is lifted. The ZPM on Tuesday swept the Lok Sabha polls.This is the first Lok Sabha polls that has been won by the relatively young ZPM party since its inception in 2017.Mizoram has only one Lok Sabha seat, which is reserved for scheduled tribes.ZPM candidate Richard Vanlalhmangaiha defeated his nearest opponent K. Vanlalvena, who is also the sitting Rajya Sabha member of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) by a margin of 68,288 votes, according to the poll results declared by the Election Commission on Tuesday.

Six candidates had contested the lone Lok Sabha polls in the state. Richard secured 2,08,552 votes against 1,40,264 votes bagged by Vanlalvena.Congress candidate Lalbiakzama stood at third securing 98,595 votes, followed by BJP candidate Vanlalhmuaka, who finished with 33,533 votes. Independent candidate Lalhriatrenga Chhangte secured 4,706 votes, while lone woman candidate Rita Malsawmi of People’s Conference (PC) party came at the bottom bagging 3,793 votes.
