Mizoram Power and Electricity department has outstanding dues amounting to Rs. 144.25 crore for purchase of electricity, state Power and Electricity Minister F. Rodingliana informed the state legislative assembly on Wednesday. Replying to questions from Lalchhuanthanga of the ruling ZoramProple’s Movement (ZPM), Rodingliana said that the department has outstanding dues to the tune of Rs. 1,27,08,09,493 to generating companies, Rs. 16,67,16,173 to transmission companies and Rs. 49,83,094 to North East Load Dispatch Centre (NERLDC).

The total outstanding dues of the power department as on February 16, 2024 was Rs.144,25,08,760, he said. Intervening in the discussion, Chief Minister Lalduhoma accused the previous Mizo National Front (MNF) government of allowing the outstanding dues to accumulate by not making payments on time resulting in payment of huge amount of interests for delay payments.

Lalduhoma said that payment of bills received from the consumers in the state could not cover the expenses on purchase of power from outside as charges to the consumers are highly subsidised by the state government. EOM
