Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann officially launched ‘Project BLOOM’ (Better Living through Outreach, Optimal Maternal & Child Health) today at Lungsen Primary Health Centre (PHC), a targeted initiative to enhance maternal and child health outcomes in the Lungsen Aspirational Block. In her address, DC Pi Navneet Mann emphasised that Project BLOOM is a strategic response to persistent health challenges in the block, calling for active community involvement and convergence of departmental efforts to ensure its effectiveness.
The programme was chaired by Lungsen Block Development Officer Pu Lalhruailiana Zote and included presentations by Medical Officer Dr Lalremruati and CDPO Pu Vanlalsanga. Additional DC Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt proposed a vote of thanks. Tokens of appreciation were presented to five households who supported the initiative by hosting ‘Maternity Waiting Rooms’, and ‘BLOOM Gift Baskets’ were distributed to five pregnant women. A ‘Safe Womb Wheel’—a maternity transport vehicle provided by NHIDCL under its CSR programme—was also flagged off as part of the launch.
The event also featured a free health clinic and NCD screening under the ‘Healthy Lunglei District Campaign’, along with Aadhaar enrolment and updation services. Project BLOOM is an initiative of the Deputy Commissioner Lunglei to achieve saturation in key health and nutrition indicators under NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Block Programme, through focused, community-level interventions across the Lungsen RD Block.
