Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati administered oath and inducted Pu Lalmalsawma, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer as the new Chairperson of Mizoram Lokayukta. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan. After the warrants of appointment were read out by Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma, the new Chairperson Pu Lalmalsawma subscribed the oath from the Governor.
Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma led the congregation of state’s high level dignitaries that included Speaker Pu Lalbiakzama,Council of Ministers and Minister of State at the ceremony. Pu Lalmalsawma was born on 1st March,1958 at Gaya, Bihar. He joined the Union Territories (present day Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) Cadre of Indian Administrative Service in August,1983. He served in various capacities in Delhi, Goa, Mizoram and the Central government holding important portfolios in different departments such as finance, education, health, SC/ST/OBC welfare, general administration and many more. Being an efficient administrator, he held the post of Director in the Ministry of Human Resource Development from 1996-2000. He held several key posts including serving as Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram for more than 8 years.
As CEO, he was actively involved in the delimitation of Assembly Constituencies in Mizoram in 2005. His work is not only confined nationally but at the international level as well. He was appointed as one of the four International Observers deputed from India during the Palestine elections in January,2015. Pu Lalmalsawma also served as the Chief Secretary, Mizoram from 1st November,2014 to 28th February, 2018. He was voted the most upright officer in Mizoram in a state-wide poll taken in 2015 by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the main student body in Mizoram. After 35 years of service, he retired from Indian Administrative Service (IAS) on 28th Febuary, 2018.
