Rs. 29.6 cr multipurpose project under irrigation and water resources department to soon begin

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday said that the construction of a Rs 29.6 crore multipurpose project under the state’s irrigation and water resource department will soon begin in Tuidai in west Mizoram’s Mamit district, which shares borders with Bangladesh and Tripura, an official statement here said. During a meeting in Aizawl to review the initiatives undertaken by the  irrigation and water resource department, Lalduhoma said that the government will soon float a tender to find a contractor to execute the multipurpose project, the statement said. The project is funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), he said.

The chief minister informed the meeting that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Mat Valley Integrated Water Resource Management and Climate Resilient Irrigation project in Serchhip has been completed and a core group has been formed to monitor it. The DPR for the Mat Valley Integrated Water Resource Management and Climate Resilient Irrigation project was prepared keeping in mind water supply, irrigation, water source conservation and eco tourism, he said. The Brahmaputra Board board will find funding outside the state’s budget, he said.

He said that a project proposal has been submitted to the Centre for implementing scientific distribution of water resources in Champhai and Mat valley in Serchhip district. Lalduhoma also said that steps are being taken to obtain forest clearance for the construction of Ngur-Vapar multipurpose dam in east Mizoram’s Champhai district. The meeting was attended by irrigation and water resources minister PC Vanlalruata and important officials from the department.
