total of six candidates, including one female, have filed nominations for the upcoming elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram slated for April 19, election officials said. The date of filing nomination has ended on Wednesday.
Ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) fielded Richard Vanlalhmangaiha (46), while main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) nominated sitting Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena(54), they said. Congress fielded retired Mizoram Police Service (MPS) officer and former home secretary Lalbiakzama (63), BJP fielded its state president Vanlalhmuaka(52) and Rita Malsawmi (48) of People’s Conference (PC) party also filed nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, officials said.
Former Congress worker and ex-BJP leader Lalhriatrenga Chhangte (59) is contesting as an independent. More than 8.6 lakh electorates, including 4.41 lakh female voters and 36,214 first time voters, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state.
There are 1,276 polling stations across the state and of these 21 polling stations located along the inter-state border and international border areas are declared ‘critical’, officials said. At least 15 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in addition to 3,000 state police personnel will be deployed across the state during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, officials added.
