As a part of the celebration of Indian Independence Day, Akashvani, Aizawl and Mizoram Law College jointly organized the Independence Music Festival at the Mizoram Law College Legal Chamber. Hon’ble Speaker of Mizoram Legislative Assembly Pu Lalbiakzama and Dr. Esther L. Chhangte, Principal, Mizoram Law College, were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. In his speech, Hon’ble Speaker Pu Lalbiakzama said that music is one of the most significant ways to express our joy and celebration. He appreciated the efforts of Akashvani Aizawl and Mizoram Law College in organizing the event which is aptly befitting of our country’s Independence. He emphasized that even if we don’t understand the language or the meaning of a song, we can still sing it beautifully. That is the unique power of music. Music transcends borders, cultures and languages. Music expresses our joy and sorrow. Even in times of sadness, music can bring comfort. Music is the essence of human life. Music brings unity and strength, even in times of war and conflict, it inspires and motivates us. Music reaches out to those in despair and gives them hope and new beginnings.
Encouraging the artist, the chief guest said, ‘As we revel in your music and performances, let us also create songs that showcase our Mizo heritage and values. Our rich musical traditions, including folk songs and LEIHKAPUI style songs, are treasures that we must cherish and promote. Let us continue to innovate and build upon them.’ The chief guest Pu Lalbiakzama also addressed the law students, saying, ‘The future of Mizoram’s justice system rests in your hands. To those who will pursue careers in law and justice, I offer this advice: if you approach your work with a self-serving mindset, justice will never be served in our state. However, if you serve with integrity, upholding truth and righteousness, I am confident that Mizoram will experience a reign of justice and righteousness, guided by divine principles.’
Pu DR. Lalropuia, Director (E) & Cluster Head, warmly welcomed participants and explained the significance of hosting this event. The program featured speeches by esteemed guests, a vibrant cultural dance and an Independence costume parade presented by the Chhinlung Cultural Club.
