The Mizoram State Commission for Women registered a suo moto case against two youths for livestreaming sexual acts on a social media platform Instagram. “Cognizant of the gravity of the situation wherein a woman, seemingly a Mizo, livestreamed sexual acts with another individual, leading to the widespread circulation of video clips across multiple social media platforms, the Commission has taken decisive action. In light of these distressing events, the Commission has initiated a suo moto case to address this matter,” the Commission said in a state.

Through information gleaned from social media sources, the Commission discovered that the woman had preluded her actions by advertising on the platform, implying that she would be monetizing her activities. Subsequently, she proceeded to conduct live sexual acts via her social media account, accessible to those who had remunerated for entry.Given the gravity of the situation, the Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police (Cyber), Aizawl, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

They are tasked with making necessary arrests of those involved in the sexual activities and, if applicable, the account owner, should they be different individuals. Meanwhile, the Commission has extended an appeal to the public, urging them to refrain from further circulating the video clips on social media platforms. These actions not only perpetrate offenses against women but also contravene IT Act.
