The devotional singer Garimella Balakrishna Prasad gets honored by PM Modi

The death of well-known devotional singer and composer Garimella Balakrishna Prasad has been mourned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I am saddened by Garimella Balakrishna Prasad Garu’s demise. Numerous people were moved by his heartfelt performances, which preserved and honored our great musical and spiritual legacy. He will always be regarded as a talented composer and musician. I send my deepest sympathies to his loved ones and supporters. PMO India shared on X: “Om Shanti: PM @narendramodi.” Many people remember Garimella Balakrishna Prasad Garu for his contributions to classical and devotional music, particularly for making the Annamacharya kirtans more generally known.

From 1978 to 2006, he worked as a Special Grade Vocal Artiste for the Annamacharya Project of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam. “I was shocked to learn of the passing of Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ court vocalist. Garimella, a wonderful individual who composed music for over 600 Annamacharya sankirtanas, was a court vocalist in TTD from 1978 until 2006.That such a wonderful individual is no longer with us is sad. I ask God to give his holy soul peace. His family has my sincerest sympathies,” Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote on X.

Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnukatha, Jagadapu Chanavula, Vachenu Alamelumanga, Tiruveedhula Merasi, Choodaramma Satulaala, Jayalakhmi Varalakshmi, Aadimoolame maaku angaraksha, Mangambudhi Hamumantha, Antayu Neeve, Yemani pogadudume, Annimantramulu, and Pidikita Thalambrala are a few of the well-known sankeerthanas that Sri Prasad is set to tune. He was regarded as a pioneer in the composition and performance of Annamacharya Sankeerthanas in light, folk, semi-classical, and classical Indian musical genres.
