This year, the Mizoram Aizawl Traffic Police confiscated 176 silencers and modified exhaust systems that produced noise levels higher than the 80 dB limit. According to the CJM’s order dated November 13, 2024, the confiscated objects were burnt at the Aizawl Superintendent of Police’s office courtyard. The Aizawl Traffic Police’s tenacious efforts to reduce motorcycle-related noise pollution in the city prompted the judgment. Aizawl is hosting a lot of activities in anticipation of the holiday season, which is increasing traffic, particularly late at night.
In addition to being against the law, riding a motorcycle with modified silencers pollutes the air and causes tension, worry, and psychological anguish in young people, the old, and the sick. In an effort to stop this threat, the Aizawl City Traffic Police have started conducting nighttime special drives to apprehend offenders in the act. They plan to continue conducting strict drives in the coming weeks. With the assistance of the local councils and traffic management committees, Stephen Lalrinawma has expressed gratitude for the numerous violators he has been able to catch and hopes for their ongoing support. The SP of Traffic Police asks the public to report any incidents of drunk driving, riding with loud silencers, driving at excessive speeds, riding without helmets, underage driving, and dangerous driving to the Traffic Control Room at the numbers provided, along with the registration number and photo of the offending vehicle, in order to maintain the peace and safety of all citizens during this festive season.
