Trekking with purpose: New homestay network empowers rural Nepal

Estimated read time 1 min read

Nepal’s Tourism Ministry, in partnership with local NGOs, has created a community-run ecotourism network along the Annapurna Circuit. The project includes homestays run by village families, sustainability training, and revenue-sharing with local conservation funds.
The initiative empowers rural communities, preserves culture, and supports mountain-based livelihoods while minimizing environmental impact.
Indian hill states and Bhutan are watching closely, with interest in replicating similar decentralized and sustainable tourism models in fragile mountain ecosystems.
