On the last day of his official tour to Mizoram, Shri Harsh Malhotra, Honourable Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport & Highways, visited the Regional Office of NHIDCL at Aizawl, which oversees the development works of National Highways in the state. NHIDCL has undertaken 33 projects across NH 306, NH 06, NH 02, NH 102B, NH 302, and NH 502A, covering a design length of 820 km with a total budget of ₹19,800 crore. These projects aim to promote the socio-economic growth of Mizoram and fulfill strategic requirements along the Myanmar and Bangladesh borders. According to NHIDCL officials, Project Monitoring Units have been set up at Kolasib, Seling, Lunglei, and Lawngtlai to ensure effective supervision. The minister also visited the site of Greenfield Alignment of the upcoming four-lane Package 8 of Mualkhang-Sairang and the two-lane Aizawl Bypass Package 1 of NH 06 on his way to the airport. The four-lane project is part of the Vairengte-Sairang four-lane work aimed at enhancing connectivity between Silchar and Aizawl. The work has already been awarded, and pre-construction activities are ongoing, with construction set to commence soon. Also, the Aizawl Bypass Package 1 is part of the Aizawl Bypass project, which aims to reduce overcrowding of traffic in Aizawl city and enhance traffic connectivity directly between Sairang and Seling, reducing the travel length by 30 km. The work has also been awarded, with pre-construction activities currently ongoing and construction expected to start soon.
Later, the minister visited the ongoing construction project of a steel arch bridge over the River Tlawng on National Highway-44A. The project, executed by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, is a 90-meter steel arch (semi-through) bridge with a concrete deck at Km 5.200 on NH-44A. The construction is being carried out under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, which is supervised by the Chief Engineer, Highways, PWD, Circle-I, Aizawl, Mizoram, while the Superintending Engineer, PWD, National Highway Circle-I, Aizawl, Mizoram, serves as the Authority’s Engineer. The minister urged the officials to complete the project on time and instructed them to personally report the completion status, assuring that he would return for the bridge’s inauguration upon completion. Union Minister Harsh Malhotra arrived in Aizawl on January 26 for a three-day official tour to Mizoram.
On the first day, he visited the “Inspection & Certification Centre” at Hlimen, an ongoing project under the Road Safety Division of MoRTH, with an estimated cost of ₹7.10 crore. On January 27, he conducted an aerial inspection of the completed Seling-Dulte NH 06 and ongoing Keifang-Tuivai NH 102B projects. Later, he visited Saitual District, meeting with Heads of Offices, Village Council members, and NGO leaders. He also toured the Saitual District Hospital, Saitual Government High School, and Tamdil Wetland.
