The Kolasib Forest Division, under the Department of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Mizoram, celebrated the valedictory function of the 71st Wildlife Week at the UD&PA Conference Hall, Diakkawn, Kolasib today. The event, themed “Human-Animal Coexistence”, aimed to highlight and promote harmonious living and mutual respect between people and wildlife. The programme was chaired by Pu Aniket P. Gaonkar, Divisional Forest Officer, Kolasib. Pu Lalhmachhuana, President, Joint VC, Kolasib, graced the function as Chief Guest, while Pu C. Liankunga, Vice President, Sub-Hrqs YMA, Kolasib attended as Guest of Honour. Special invitee Pu H. Vanlalnghaka, Honorary Wildlife Warden, and other dignitaries were present. The event began with scripture reading and prayer led by Rev. R. Lalthangvunga, followed by welcome address from the Chairman. A report on Wildlife Week was presented by Pu Jonathan Laihrualtuanga, ACF.
The celebration of Wildlife Week 2025 in Kolasib district was successfully organized with active participation from all forest ranges, encompassing every high school and higher secondary school across the district. Range-wise competitions in painting and sculpture making were conducted, ensuring broad involvement and fostering environmental awareness among students. The most talented students in each range were recognized as winners and subsequently competed at the District Level. Winners at both the range and district levels in painting and sculpture-making were honored with awards, certificates, and prize money during the valedictory function. These efforts were part of the district’s commitment to promoting wildlife conservation awareness and encouraging creative expression on themes related to nature and coexistence.
A keynote speech on the importance of wildlife protection was delivered by Honorary Wildlife Warden The programme also included solo performances, prize distributions, and felicitations of guests in recognition of their contributions to wildlife conservation. The function concluded with a vote of thanks from Pu Immanuela, RO Kolasib, reiterating the Forest Division’s commitment to raising awareness and fostering active local participation in wildlife conservation activities.
