Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, addressed the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University in Aizawl today and congratulated the graduating students, urging them to play a key role in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Highlighting the transformation of the Northeast over the past decade, the Vice President said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region has been placed at the centre of India’s development narrative. He noted that improved connectivity, including the recently inaugurated Bairabi–Sairang railway line, has transformed the Northeast, which is now defined by its closeness to opportunity rather than its distance from Delhi.
Governor of Mizoram and Chief Rector of Mizoram University General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.); Chief Minister of Mizoram Lalduhoma; and Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, and other dignitaries were present during the occasion. Upon his arrival at Lok Bhavan yesterday on his maiden visit to Mizoram, Radhakrishnan was accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Governor, the Chief Minister, Home Minister K Sapdanga, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C Lalsawivunga, and other dignitaries. On Friday evening, the Government of Mizoram hosted a special cultural programme followed by a dinner in honour of the Vice President at the Lok Bhavan, which saw a captivating rendition of ‘Bharat Ki Beti’ by Mizoram’s young prodigy and PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardee Esther Lalduhawmi.
