Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will address the ongoing session of the Mizoram state legislative assembly on Monday afternoon, officials of the state assembly secretariat said on Saturday. Dhankar will address the session of the state assembly after attending the 18th Convocation of the Mizoram University at Tanhril in the western outskirts of Aizawl, the officials said. The Vice President is on a one-day visit to this northeastern state and will be returning to Delhi on the same day.
As per schedule, he will enter the assembly house at 12.45 PM and will deliver his address after the state armed police pipe band plays the National Anthem. The officials, however, said that the exact time may be changed later due to unforeseen circumstances and they are yet to issue an official notification. They said that the Vice President’s office has been changing his programme a number of times and it is impossible to ascertain his timings till Saturday afternoon.
Dhankar, will be the second Vice President of India to address session of the state assembly. Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu had addressed session of the state legislature on March 10, 2022 in the presence of state Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, the then Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana, Ministers and legislators of the 8th legislative assembly. Session of Mizoram Legislative Assembly had been addressed by Presidents of India – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (September 24, 2005), Ram Nath Kovind (November 30, 2017) and Droupadi Murmu (November 4, 2022).
