Visually impaired candidate makes history in Mizoram’s Civil Service

Mizoram witnessed a historic milestone as Lalngaihawmi, a visually impaired individual, shattered barriers by clinching the prestigious Mizoram Civil Service (MCS) examination. Making headlines across the state, Lalngaihawmi’s triumph marks a significant breakthrough, signaling inclusivity and resilience in the face of adversity. Lalngaihawmi’s journey to success was fraught with challenges. Afflicted by retinitis pigmentosa at a tender age, she encountered daunting obstacles on her path to education.

However, undeterred by her visual impairment, she rekindled her academic aspirations, emerging as a beacon of determination and perseverance. The rigorous preparation for the MCS examination presented formidable hurdles for Lalngaihawmi. Converting study materials into audio format became her lifeline, reflecting her commitment and resilience amidst tears and setbacks.

Speaking about her triumph, Lalngaihawmi shared a poignant message of hope and resilience, urging the youth to confront challenges with courage and perseverance. Today, amidst a celebratory atmosphere, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Office honored Lalngaihawmi and two other successful candidates who cleared the PwD Quota in the Mizoram Combined Competitive Examinations 2023. The event, graced by esteemed organizations including the Mizoram Journalist Association (MJA) and the Federation of Mizoram Disabled Organizations (FMDO), underscores the state’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment.
