The Mizoram government has sought a permission from the Centre to depute Vumlunmang Vualnam, the present secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, as the next chief secretary of the state, chief minister Lalduhoma said on Saturday. Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Aizawl, Lalduhoma said he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday and urged him to deploy Vualnam to replace the incumbent chief secretary Renu Sharma, who is retiring by October end.

He said that he also urged Shah to shortlist senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre so that they can choose their own choice of IAS officer to occupy the top bureaucrat post in the state if Vualnam is not possible.  The Manipur cadre IAS officer of 1992 batch, Vulnam had held many important positions in the Union Government, including additional secretary in the Ministry of Finance, joint secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and deputy secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Company Affairs.

He had also held several key positions in the Manipur government and had served as an advisor to the Executive Director in the World Bank. He was appointed as the secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation in August, 2023.
