Weightlifter Priteesmita Bhoi won gold in the girls’ 44kg division at the Youth Asian Games, shattering the world youth record in clean and jerk. The 16-year-old smashed the world youth record by lifting 92 kg in clean and jerk and 66 kg in snatch, totaling 158 kg and placing first on the competition podium. Priteesmita, a teenager, achieved her first clean and jerk lift of 87 kg on the same day that India won silver in the boys’ 60 kg event. She managed to hoist 92 kg for the record after improving it by three kg in her second lift. After successfully lifting 66 kg in snatch, she was unsuccessful in her subsequent tries at 68 and 69 kg.
