Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma reaffirmed that his party, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), would uphold a neutral stance in the Parliament should the party’s candidate secure a seat in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Amidst the persistent debate over alignment with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, Lalduhoma asserted the autonomy of ZPM from political directives emanating from Delhi.
Speaking at the launching of the Lok Sabha election campaign in Aizawl, Lalduhoma said, “ZPM distinguishes itself by its independence from political influences in Delhi. Our stance on government policies will be dictated solely by their impact. While we seek to foster positive relations with the central government, we are resolute in opposing any measures that threaten our cultural and religious heritage. ZPM remains steadfast as a regional party dedicated to the interests of Mizoram.” The role of the Member of Parliament assumes paramount importance in facilitating communication between the state and the central government, vital for Mizoram’s development trajectory, he said.
Lalduhoma further highlighted, “As we embark on numerous projects requiring advocacy in the corridors of power in Delhi, the candidacy of Richard Vanlalhmangaiha stands out. His proficiency in English and Hindi, coupled with extensive experience across diverse domains, renders him the ideal candidate.” Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, also addressing the gathering, pledged to leverage central government schemes and initiatives for the benefit of Mizoram. “The central government extends its generosity provided funds are utilized prudently. The ZPM administration commits to judicious financial management, ensuring an ample flow of funds from the Centre,” he affirmed.
